Beckham suffers defeat in first game in charge

Nathan Beckham’s first game as Ryton & Crawcrook Albion boss ended in defeat as goals from George Pinder and Brandon Turnbull secured Chester-le-Street Town a 2-0 victory at Moor Park.

Albion, who had six new starters in the line -up and three more on the bench, did make an encouraging start under their new boss in the first game since Joe Kendrick had to step aside. They dominated the first half possession and chances but Pinder’s goal on the stroke of half time gave the hosts an undeserved lead.

The second half was more even and while Albion were pushing for an equaliser, it was the home side who doubled their advanatge 10 minutes from time. Charlie Grieveson then pulled one back in the closing stages but it was too little, too late.

Defeat leaves Albion 18th in the Northern League standings with 22 points from 25 games. Second-bottom Washington visit Crawcrook in Beckham’s first home match in charge next week.

Albion appoint Beckham as Manager

Ryton & Crawcrook Albion have today appointed Nathan Beckham as Manager of the First Team after Joe Kendrick was forced to step aside from the role due to work commitments.

Kendrick, who succeeded Daniel Iredale at Kingsley Park in September, will remain at the Club as part of the new management team.

Beckham had a successful spell as manager of Killingworth in the Northern Football Alliance Premier Division until last season and joins from First Division side West Allotment Celtic, where he was assistant manager.

Andrew Waugh has also joined as Assistant Manager from Whitley Bay Reserves while Jack Moore and Ryan Craven will remain as part of the coaching set up.

Beckham said: “I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to be part of such a good Club and look forward to getting started.

“I’ve enjoyed being part of a great group at West Allotment which has just added to my hunger for success.

“We are looking to have a strong end to the season with big ambitions for the Club going forward.”

Kendrick added: “I’m delighted Nathan and Andy have agreed to join the Club and I think these appointments will take the club onto the next level supported by myself and the committee.

“Nathan is someone I know well and he achieved great success at Killingworth last season so it’s a great appointment. Andy comes to the Club with a great knowledge of the local leagues and has an appetite for success.”

A statement from the Committee read: “We are delighted to welcome both Nathan and Andrew to the Club and are happy to have kept Joe.

“We are looking forward to working closely with the new management team to help them realise the ambitions that they and the Club share.

“We wish them all the very best as they take up their new roles.”

Albion are due to face Chester-le-Street Town in their next Ebac Northern League Division 2 fixture on January 7 before hosting Washington a week later.

Albion surrender 3-goal lead to lose

Ryton & Crawcrook Albion suffered a very disappointing defeat at Sunderland West End in the Ebac Northern League 2, throwing away a 3-0 lead to lose 4-3 – with all 7 goals coming in an extraordinary first half at the Ford Hub.

Albion raced into a 3-0 lead inside 16 minutes thanks to a Charlie Grieveson brace and a Kyle Cockburn strike. But the hosts replied with three quick-fire goals from Brad Oliver, James Cassidy and Oliver Thompson to level before Thompson’s second on the stroke of half time completed the stunning comeback.

Albion suffer heavy defeat at Horden

It was a 5th of November to forget as Ryton & Crawcrook Albion suffered a heavy 7-2 defeat at Horden CW.

Albion actually went in front with a Daniel O’Reilly effort after 12 minutes. But the hosts responded with goals from Liam Wright (23), Lewis Connolly (35) and Jack Maskell (44).

They extended their lead further in the second half through Maskell on the hour mark before O’Reilly scored his second on 81 minutes to make it 4-2. However, a late brace from James Watson (86, 90) and Joshua Home-Jackson (93) wrapped up a miserable day for the visitors.

Albion held by Jarrow

Daniel O’Reilly’s early strike wasn’t enough as Ryton & Crawcrook Albion were held to a 1-1 draw at Jarrow in the Ebac Northern League 2 on Saturday.

O’Reilly scored after just two minutes at Perth Green but that was cancelled out by Abubaker Salim’s equliser five minutes later.

Joe Kendrick’s side travel to Horden CW in their next fixture on November 5.
