Match postponed after Queen’s death

Ryton & Crawcrook Albion’s Ebac Northern League 2 match at Newcastle University on Saturday has been postponed alongside all other English football fixtures between 9-11 September – as announced by the Football Association – as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday.

Our thoughts and condolences are with The Royal Family at this time.

Albion appoint Joe Kendrick as Manager

Ryton & Crawcrook Albion are delighted to announce the appointment of Joe Kendrick as the club’s new First Team Manager.

A former professional footballer and Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, Kendrick succeeds Daniel Iredale who departed the club earlier this week.

The 39-year-old takes up the RACA post after a hugely successful 2-year stint as head coach of local rivals Prudhoe Youth Club Seniors.

He led them to back-to-back promotions from the second tier of the Alliance to the Northern League this year before stepping down in the summer.

As a player, Kendrick played for Newcastle United at youth and reserve level, 1860 Munich, in Germany, experienced Champions League football with Irish champions Drogheda United, while also turning out for North-East clubs Blyth Spartans and Darlington.

“I am incredibly excited to be at Ryton & Crawcrook Albion and I can’t wait to get started,” Kendrick said. “I look forward to meeting and working with the squad and to develop a team that the RACA supporters can be proud of.”

The new manager watched Albion’s 2-0 win over Sunderland West End at Kingsley Park on Wednesday night.

He will take charge of the team for the first time on Tuesday at Billingham Town before his first home fixture against Boro Rangers, scheduled for next Friday, 16 September.

“We are thrilled to have secured the services of Joe Kendrick,” read a statement from the committee. “Joe had been on the clubs radar both during and after his successful stint at Prudhoe.

“His professional playing career along with his recent managerial success was behind the clubs decision to appoint him.

“We are looking forward to working closely with him to help him realise the ambitions that he and the club share.

“We wish Joe all the very best as he takes up his new post.”

Kendrick’s coaching staff will be finalised and announced in due course.

Albion earn win over West End

A second half brace from substitute Joe Thompson earned Ryton & Crawcrook Albion a crucial 2-0 win over Sunderland West End on Wednesday – the first match since the departure of Daniel Iredale.

John Thompson and Don McCloud were in the hotseat as caretaker manager and assistant respsctively.

The win ended a run of 7 league games without a victory.

Dan Iredale leaves Albion by mutual consent

Ryton & Crawcrook Albion have today parted company with manager Daniel Iredale by mutual consent.

Appointed in January 2021, Iredale guided the club to EA Cup success and a sixth-place finish in the Northern League Division 2 in his first season in charge.

But a difficult start to this season leaves Albion 19th in the table with only 5 points from 10 games.

“Everyone connected with Ryton & Crawcrook Albion would like to place on record their sincere thanks to Daniel for all his hard work and dedication, and especially for delivering the first piece of silverware to the club in many years,” read a statement from the club’s committee.

“We wish Dan every success for the future. He will always be warmly welcomed back to Kingsley Park.

“We would also like to extend our gratitude to James Barker, Lewis Carr, Carl Paterson and Tiago Dores for their contributions to the club as part of the coaching team.”

A caretaker manager will be appointed to lead the team on an interim basis, starting with Wednesday’s league fixture at home to Sunderland West End, while the process of recruiting a new manager is under way and an appointment will be announced in due course.
